Around & About Lake George: Friday, June 3, 2011
Well, I wished for summer and I got it. Call me a hound – these are the dog days of summer already (or so it feels) and it’s only June! Yes, Elvis reference.
Speaking of Elvis – the Elvisfest kicks off this weekend with an opening ceremony in Shepard Park before the NY Players play. Whether you’re a fan of the King or simply looking for some entertainment, you’ll find it at the Elvisfest (which runs through Sunday, June 5th). Everything from weddings and gospel music to boat rides, car shows and the tribute artist competition – plus much, much more. I won’t go into all the details, but there’s a full schedule you can check out for more details on all the events for the Elvisfest this weekend.
If you aren’t in the mood for Elvis Friday night, the NY Players are scheduled to go on at 7 – though I’m not sure how that would work with the opening ceremony of Elvisfest going on at the same time…
No matter, I’m sure it will work out. Friday evening seems to be for the musically inclined, as the Battle of the Bands is happening at SPAC at 6. Why not head down and check out some great local talent?
If you’re in the area and want to get a jump on Americade, Warrensburg is kicking off their 9th annual 10-day bike rally Friday morning – food, drink and fun for all.
Outside of Elvisfest, this weekend is an antiquing dream. There’s a massive yard sale/flea market at the Saratoga Casino and Raceway from 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, as well as a South Glens Falls and Moreau-wide garage sale at the same time – a master list of sales will be at the Moreau Community Center Saturday at 9 AM. So unless you can clone yourself, you’ll probably miss some things because I know I can spend all day wandering through the booths and tables, though it’ll be a question if I actually buy anything. The annual St. James Spring Fair (in Lake George) is happening Saturday and Sunday this weekend as well, 9 to 5 both days. I wasn’t lying when I said this weekend would be great for collectors!
There are some great causes to support this weekend as well. The opening of the Paddock Lounge in Saratoga is raising money for female veterans (as well as giving away a Corvette), the Relay For Life is walking through Friday night into Saturday morning at the Queensbury high school, and the third annual Claire Sweet Golf Tournament is happening at the Top Of The World Golf Course here in Lake George.
And if you just want to drink, well, you can do that to. For the first time there is a Brewfest in North Creek Saturday evening, 30 bucks a head.
After Elvisfest comes Americade, which officially kicks off Tuesday the 7th, though if you pre-registered you can sign in Monday and there are some things going on. The roar of motorcycles will be around this week – Americade runs through Saturday, the Warrensburg rally continues, and there is a bike and art fest in Bolton Landing Thursday through Saturday (the 9th through the 11th) at Veteran’s Park.
If you desire something…quieter, the Saratoga Arts Fest is also the 9th through the 11th…in, well, Saratoga. Dance, music, art, theater, it’s all there, and more.
There’s a lot going on this week, so pick and choose wisely!
