Sagamore’s Popular Ice Bar Returning this Winter
Hotel and Restaurants Now Open Every Weekend
Far from a deterrent, last winter’s bone chilling weather helped make the Sagamore’s inaugural Glacier Ice Bar & Lounge one of the most popular attractions on the lake.
According to Tom Guay, the ice bar was so successful that the bar will not only be enlarged to accommodate more people but will be open three days a week rather than two.
The ice bar returns January 23 and will remain open on weekends through February 1.
According to the Sagamore’s owners, preparations will begin right after New Year’s Eve, when a team of ice sculptors and designers will assemble in Bolton Landing. Using chisels and chainsaws, the craftsmen will carve and assemble the bar, seats, tables, ice Luges, couches and sculptures from 300-pound blocks of ice.
The bar will feature chilled, handcrafted cocktails, live music and special menus of light fare.
The lobby with its fireplace, as well as the bar in the Caldwell Room, will be open to allow patrons to warm themselves between visits to the ice bar, which will be situated on the Veranda.
Tom Guay said he is in the process of adding even more features to the attraction, including a visiting furrier who will display and sell fur coats.
According to Guay, for the first time in its 120-year history, the resort and most of its restaurants will remain open every weekend throughout the off-season.
The hotel is also adding new features to its holiday offerings as well, including a “Brunch with Santa,” said Guay.
Operation Santa Claus’s 40th annual charity ball will be held this year on December 13, said Guay.
