What’s Hot in Japan? Work of Bolton Artist
Local artist and jewelry maker Sara Pfau’s pendants in the shapes of New York’s five boroughs – an extension of her Lake George pendants – have acquired an unexpected market: Japanese hip hop fans.
Her New York pendants were recently featured in a magazine called Hip Hop Insider.
Here, translated literally, is what was written:
“A Brooklyn-based artist, Sara Pfau created her own jewelry brand called ‘You Are Here.’ She designs gold and silver jewelry that silhouette chosen geography in the US. Her pendants are the most famous line – shaping New York City’s five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. Sara says that she believes maps are symbolic for people to establish identities and roots. She creates those pendants because the culture New York City inspires her. This relationship happens in Hip Hop culture too. Many rappers have made lyrics that includes their city of birth or name of the street where they grew up. It should be so cool to represent NYC culture by wearing Sara’s pendants.”
Sara Pfau’s pendants in the shape of Lake George and of the lake’s islands are available at Next Summer on Main Street, Bolton Landing.
